Some St. Patty's crafting fun!!

We are busy, busy, busy around here crafting away for St. Patty's day.  There may be only 3 more days until St. Patrick's Day, but that is PLENTY of time to whip up some fun crafts!  We don't start our crafting too far before the holiday or my little one will ask every day if the holiday in question is here yet.  I can only handle that question for a few days, so we start right before the holiday!

We hadn't really done too much crafting lately so we are all very excited to be busy again.  We are sprucing up our leprechaun trap and you can see some great ideas HERE from yesterday's post if you are interested in making your own.

Our trap will be set on Thursday night in case the leprechauns come early this year ;)    In the meantime, I found some really cute ideas for shamrock, rainbow and leprechaun crafts that I wanted to share!

Shamrock...not to be mistaken for the 4-leaf clover (as my friend reminded me) is the official symbol of Ireland.  It is said to be used by St. Patrick to illustrate the Trinity in Christian doctrine while the 4-leaf clover is thought to be a symbol of good luck because they are so rare.  According to legend, each leaf represents something: the 1st for faith, the 2nd for hope, the 3rd for love and the 4th is for luck.   Speaking of 4-leaf clovers, my daughter found this today in our backyard...hope it brings us some luck!

Here are a few fun shamrock crafts...

Shamrock Jewelry

Shamrock Hat

Tissue Paper Shamrock

Tissue Paper Shamrock with a Rainbow

Tissue Paper Mosaic Shamrock

My son made one just like this last year an I LOVE it.  It's hanging again for this year.  Here it is...

And I loved this idea.  A similar take on the "thankful tree" I showed you HERE for Thanksgiving.  This instead is "I am lucky because"....love it!

Rainbows - It is said that if you follow a rainbow until its end, you'll find where the leprechauns have left their treasures.  ;)   So...nothing says leprechaun more than a fun rainbow craft.

Here are a few of my favorite rainbow crafts...

Cereal Rainbows

Cereal Rainbow with the Pot of Gold

A Yarn Rainbow

And some tissue paper rainbows...

And my most favorite of all...

Leprechauns-  is a type of fairy in Irish folklore, usually taking the form of an old man, clad in a red or green coat, who enjoys partaking in mischief.   We love the leprechaun mischief that can happen around here when those pesky leprechauns visit!

Here are a few cute leprechaun crafts....

Leprechaun Hats from Tupperware containers..for the leprechauns to fill with gold.

Hand Print Leprechauns

And a great paper plate leprechaun...

That rounds out my favorites for St. Patrick's Day crafts.   I have some fun snack ideas and treats to share tomorrow!

And I leave you with some Irish words of wisdom...

"May your blessings outnumber the shamrocks that grow, and may trouble avoid you wherever you go."

Catching those pesky leprechauns...

I finally finished adding a touch of green to my home for St. Patrick's Day and to welcome Spring.  It's almost here!   Yesterday marked Daylight Savings and to me...that's a sign that we're almost there.  Despite the misery that Spring allergies brings my little guy, this is one of my favorite times of the year (I think I say that for every changing season so maybe it's more the change...lol)

Here are a few pictures of my Spring mantle with some St. Patrick's Day touches.
(The pictures aren't so great because they are from my phone, but you get the idea)

I added some topiaries that I found years ago at Marshall's super cheap.   I put them in some urns that I had to add some contrast to their bright green color.

I added some splashes of deep yellow in my candles and urn.

I used cheap store-bought garland and added some shiny cardboard shamrocks to create my own garland.

I do not go crazy for this holiday...a few shiny shamrocks go a LONG way.  What we do go crazy for is our leprechaun trap.  We set up our trap the week of with TONS of green goodies to entice the leprechauns.  I shared some pictures of our leprechaun trap from last year HERE, but I also found some other ideas to spruce up ours for this year.

I love the rainbow on top...

And talk about rainbows...boy oh boy, this one takes the cake.  This is not a leprechaun trap per se, but I'm sure it would be fun to incorporate!

Or this incredible rainbow paper chain...so cute.  Something about rainbow colors makes me smile.

That is sure to bring the leprechauns...

And I love this creative "leprechaun hotel"...so fun!

This is pretty fun too....the prop of the ladder adds to the fun for the kids.

And lastly...a good old-fashioned trap.  Basic, but still creative!

While searching for some new ideas to catch our leprechaun this year, I found these really cute scavenger hunts for St. Patrick's Day.

I think this rainbow one is definitely my favorite.  I hope our leprechaun has been visiting pinterest so that he can try his own take on this fun treasure hunt.

He even left some leprechaun prints.  (Click on the link below the photo for a great how-to and some free printables)

This treasure hunt is based on cute little limericks to guide you to the treasure.
(Free printables are also available via the link below)

And this last one is so great.  The gold $1 coins found at then end are then donated.  Check it out!

The final clue...

Have fun getting ready for the arrival of those pesky leprechauns.  They can really create havoc on St. Patrick's Day!

I have some fun crafts, snacks, party ideas and more to share this week as the big day approaches!

And I leave you with an Irish blessing.

Coming soon!

Today is the perfect day to talk about what's to come in the shop next week because we are getting a preview of warmer weather to come with 65 degree weather!!!!

So...what do you think of when you think of warmer weather?

The BeAcH perhaps?

We have brand new canvas beach bags coming to the shop next week.

Here's a preview...

Oversized, but still incredibly light on your shoulder.  Fits multiple towels, clothes, accessories, electronics..you name it.

Includes 3 inside pockets.  Two on one side (seen here holding 2 large water bottles) and one oversized on the opposite side big enough to hold a Nook, iPad or any other tablet.

Includes a hook to hold your keys.  From experience, I know that this in invaluable because it is easy for the keys to fall to the bottom of the bag or worse, into the sand and get lost.  I speak from experience on that one.  Not fun!

We will also have coordinating mini wallets that include a tab on the side to clip into the hook.  Yes, I've also dropped my wallet in the sand...not fun either!

This one is already spoken for, but we have tons of other options coming.  Here is a peek at the fabric!
Stripes, solids, polka dots, chevron.....you name it...

Made from a great washable canvas material!

And, we have the perfect size for the little girl in your life.  This bag is great for so many things besides her own personal beach bag.  Think sleepovers, road trips, vacations....
This bag is made from fun cotton fabric.

Includes a medium sized pocket on the inside for all of her little goodies!
You can view the listing for this bag HERE.

Beach bags coming next week.  Pre orders are welcome.

Spreading some St. Patrick's Day cheer!

This is truly one of my favorite holidays.  I love the history of it and all of the tales of the leprechauns.  But most of all....I love the delight in my children's eyes when they wake up to see what the naughty leprechauns have done.

Each year we decorate, craft and get excited for the approach of St.Patrick's Day.  Part of the preparation for the big day includes setting up our very own leprechaun trap.  Here is ours from last year!

Sadly, we have yet to catch him....but we keep on trying ;)

I have found some really fun ideas for St. Patrick's Day this year from decorations to crafts, snacks for the kids, snacks for the adults and even a few ideas for leprechaun traps and tricks!

I have so many ideas that I'm going to spread them across a few days.   I'm going to start with some decorating ideas.  I am in the process of finishing up my own decorating. Here's some of my loot I have to work with...all of which I got at JoAnn Fabrics SUPER cheap.  Did you know that there is now a JoAnn's app?  Great coupons.

In the meantime....here are a few ideas I loved!

This clover garland is so cute.....we are definitely making this one! Wouldn't it be cute in green and then add some rainbow in the middle????

Or this fantastic garland...this would certainly look great with some rainbow added in.

And I love to use hurricanes.  I always decorate one of my hurricanes for every holiday.   They are a simple way to add some color and I love to use everyday items to fill them and add a little color.

Here are a few of mine from past holidays...

My Halloween from last year with candy corns and black beans.

Fall filled with leaves, acorns and pine cones.
And one with small Indian corn.

Christmas with cranberries and pine cones.

Post Christmas/Winter with silver and blue glass balls and dried white beans.

One in my daughter's room with the shells we've collected together.

And my St. Patty's one currently on my counter filled with split peas and a simple candle.    (Don't mind the groceries in the background)

Split peas and lentils make great decorations in hurricanes.  I love to use dried green split peas and yellow lentils in a hurricane for my Spring decor.  So easy and cheap too.  Try the orange lentils for Halloween!

And I guess great minds think alike because I recently found this on pinterest.  Truth be told, I stole the idea from someone years ago when I was a Southern Living at HOME consultant and there were some VERY creative women.

For some reason, her lentils are much greener or maybe it's that she's a better photographer than I...lol

I thought these hurricanes were fun as well...

And how about this adorable St. Patty's Day topiary?   I wish I had the time this year to make one.   Maybe next.

I also love a fun, festive wreath either inside our outside.  Here are two that I found that I adore.

And lastly, how about a few free printables in frames for the mantle or around the house?  I loved these two.

I have some fun ideas for crafts and how to make a leprechaun trap of your own coming up this week...stay tuned!

I leave you with some Irish words of wisdom for today...

Why should you never iron a 4-leaf clover?
You don't want to press your luck.
